2 Mello – Streets of Resistance

2 Mello – Streets of Resistance

As with most Mello mash up albums, there is always that theme or through line. Basically, 2 Mello's mash up albums sound like fully realized albums, and not just a collection of mashups he just bundled up and shipped out. It's just one part of why 2 Mello is the man.

Streets of Resistance has a vibe as if the story is being told by all the 'criminals' living in… oh, the city doesn't have a name. Well, crime is a complex thing, you can't get rid of it by just beating it up. Even if you have a bad ass soundtrack while doing it.

From Guardia With Love, Richie Branson's hard hitting hip hop tribute to Chrono Trigger and more

I had the chance to catch Richie Branson perform at MAGWest a couple months back, and what a performance it was. Definitely got to catch this guy live, if you have the opportunity. This is his album from 2013, and also happens to be the album Branson sold to me, and then signed for me at MAGWest. It was the only album he had on him, but still, sold! It's not often I hear an album on CD.

Hip hop duo Mikal kHill & Int80 are: The TroubleShooters

Hip hop duo Mikal kHill & Int80 are: The TroubleShooters

I did not know about this when it dropped. Int80, one half of one of my favorite hip hip duo's Dual Core, teams up with Mikal kHill for this dope EP. A dozen minutes of dope rhymes and old school beats. Got some crunchy drums, grunged up guitars layered with fire on those vocals. Would leave to see that closing track 'shutdown -h now" live one day. I have seen Dual Core live a few times, and I'm sure that would be epic.

Death Note$, Anime inspired hip hop from Spiegz X Lyon

Death Note$, Anime inspired hip hop from Spiegz X Lyon

I bumped tracks from this album over on the SUBCON podcast a few times, but somehow I never featured the album itself. This album gots plenty of quality tracks. Particularly, I bumped Top Notch and Shinji over on the SUBCON show. Both got stuck in my head for a good while. Other current favorites are the early tracks El Niño and Snowblind. Hot stuff. Can't wait to hear what's next.

Latest hip hop album 'HOT' from J.ReaL Hip Hop

Latest hip hop album 'HOT' from J.ReaL Hip Hop

There is a lot of fire on this album. I guess that explains the title. I bumped music from this album on a past SUBCON episode. If you watch/listen to my SUBCON show, then you'd be way more on top of these dope game inspired emcees. The track 3rd, with that opening Mario Kart reference definitely grabbed my attention. The very on-the-nose hook on Yu-Gi-Oh is too over the top not to enjoy. Hit play!

Bizarre Arcade 2 : Nostalgia Kung Fu by ayekincaid | Ray Kincaid | Free Listening on SoundCloud

Very hot rhymes by ayekincaid. I would name the stand out tracks but this album just has tracks I like. That multi-part opener is fire. I already bumped a track or two on the SUBCON podcast as soon as I heard this one. Don't sleep on this like I did. A few of these tracks have been bumping in my head ever since I started listening this album. Hope that downloadable version is really coming through soon though.

'Virtuoso,' smooth nerdcore hip hop from Aramis

'Virtuoso,' smooth nerdcore hip hop from Aramis

Some eclectic rhymes by Aramis on his latest album. It's a definite that some of these tracks are going to appear on a SUBCON podcast. Surprise dope emcees coming up is what keeps me doing this! Aramis' flow . The Chrono Trigger track! The whole albums hot, but Chrono Trigger man! Aramis lays it down smooth, and does that Mitsuda based beat the justice it deserves. Didn't know how much I needed more Chrono Trigger rap. Get this one.

GameBreax drops GameBreakers Vol 2, an album of video game inspired hip hop

Only took me nearly a year to really sit down and enjoy this one. It was definitely worth the wait! Check out some of my favorite tracks like perhaps the best Knuckles rap yet??? in SVK, or the high production quality and infectiously upbeat sounds of Game Boys.

If you're a fan of this whole video game hip hop thing, then this is an essential album in your collection.

The next level of nerdcore music is here! From Mario, Mega Man and Link trying to win the heart of a princess to Sonic and Knuckles dueling in a rap battle for Sega supremacy, GameBreakers Vol 2 is stacked full of character and lore based lyricism with cutting edge instrumentation. You’ve never heard your favorite video game heroes represented like this. Download this modern day masterpiece of gaming history today.
