This album kicks off with an ultra upbeat remix of one of my all time favorite game soundtracks, Super Mario RPG. That kicks off an opening block of Super Mario based, pipe heavy, dance mixes. Things go indie wit remixes of Crypt of the Necrodancer, Shuttle Rush, and more. There are also, even more Mario RPG remixes! What an album!Read More
This is the definition of feel good album of the year, well, if it had came out this year. That's my bad though. I first heard of FrivolousShara on an earlier Phulionius Phunk release, and a little digging revealed this EP as well. I fell in love and now I'm telling you what someone should have told me a year ago. She drops a Super Mario RPG based flow in Where Are We Going? That track would have won me over if the quality of the entire album hadn't already done so. Expect multiple tracks fro, the Feel Good Vibes EP to be featured on present and future SUBCON podcast episodes.
The one nice thing about being ridiculously late on this ridiculously dope EP is that hopefully this means FrivolousShara's next collection of music is coming soon! I hope! I still have to give this one a few more rotations though, so no rush.
One more battle.
Man I am dying to have that video game metal podcast. SOMEDAY! Until then, I just have to be content about merely writing articles about incredible VG metal like the latest jams from Lame Genie. Nothing but boss battles from the most intense bosses from the most classic games. FFVI, Super Mario RPG, TMNT, a personal all time favorite Kirby Super Star theme, and more are featured in this 6 track EP all for free download!
Be square my heart.
Tracks both new and old in the Square-Enix pantheon are featured in SquareLove, an EP that is essentially a preview of the fantastic compositions to come when The World Is Square's next full length album drops next year. Until that time, jam to some funky acoustic rearrangements of music from Bravely Default, FFIX, Breath of Fire, and Super Mario RPG.
Bumping beats from classic games
I am on a mission to spread the gospel of this album full of one of a kind video game beats. BeatmakerKelz redefines tracks from Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Shadow of the Colossus and so many more. Seventeen tracks in all, running through several eras of gaming.
Clearly I'm partial to the Culex beat from Super Mario RPG, and anything Zelda always gets turned up.
The first time I heard this album, I hit play and let it run in the background as I did other tasks. The moment the second track on the album came on, an alternate battle theme from the SNES classic Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars, I could only focus on the album. This arrangement would easily fit into Yoko Shimomura's original soundtrack.
Boss Battles for the Soul is a fantastic title for the album, as each song doesn't simply use the soundfont of SNES classics, Kyo takes the spirit of the music into consideration as he arranges each track. Seven classicSNES games are represented on the album. In all, the album includes Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past, and the aforementioned Super Mario RPG. I didn't really plan to list every game, but they are all great.
If you have ever wished a game like Link to the Past could have had just one more boss fight, or if there was just one area of Earthbound you hadn't seen yet, then this album is worth a listen. Sit back, listen, and imagine what could have been.
Grab the seven track album for $5 over on Kyo's bandcamp page.
It's a mutha fuckin' Tadpole Party!
Listen to this over the top party jam by AJ DiSpirito inspired by Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars.
As should be well known by now, my favorite composer, Yoko Shimomura worked on this game. She not only providing a wealth of new tunes that continues to be used in Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games to this day, but also rearranged classic music from both Super Mario's Koji Kondo, and Square-Enix composer Nobuo Uematsu to complete Super Mario RPG's enormous and vibrant soundtrack.
Not to mention, Shimomura also did the infinitely catchy, globe spanning music of Street Fighter II.
Incredible full length piano medley featuring classic music from 14 different sixteen bit masterpieces. Class up the joint with these somber renditions of Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario RPG, Street Fighter II, and even Mortal Kombat. The sixteen bit journey if a full length 40 minute medley that is worth every note.
Sidenote: I love that a Super Famicom controller is used on the image for this "Super Nintendo" music album, but of course, i'm a bit of a nerd for such minor details.
Finally, after several months, tons of work, and lots of nostalgia, I am very very excited to announce that the Super Mario RPG Tribute Album known as Heavy Troopa is Ready to Launch! is now 100% finished and ready to download, ABSOLUTELY FREE!

I want to officially announce one of our upcoming compilations. This compilation is a loving tribute to one of the best games to be released on the SNES, maybe even ever released. That game is Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. This compilation is fully dedicated to the amazing soundtrack of this game. With about 30 musicians and even more songs, we are looking at a very large release. Two, or even three discs by the time this is done! It's a massive undertaking, but the bands contributing are amazing, and I'm sure they will be impressing each and every one of you!
This compilation is officially titled Heavy Troopa is Ready to Launch! I am sure any SMRPG fan understands exactly why!
To find out about all the amazing musicians contributing to the compilation, check out this forum thread. There are also spots still open for several songs from the compilation, so if you are an artist and would like to throw down a remix for this compilation, just sign up for our forums and let me know!
I hope you are all as excited as I am for our first soundtrack remixing compilation!
