An all new adventure, 'Thanks Mom' - new EP from The Adventures of Duane & BrandO

Even though I've been talking about 8 Bit Duane and the Amazing BrandO since 2008, it's been a long time since one of their albums has been in my album review periphery. To be plainly honest, I wasn't going to review this EP. I tend to review albums that could use my meager push, but D&B are killing it. Well, as killing it as you can be in this VGM niche. They don't need my help. OR SO I THOUGHT.

Nerdcore chip-pop from Professor Shyguy in 'Rated Heart'

Rated-Heart-Professor-Shyguy

The problem with plunging into the deeper recesses of video game inspired music is that I can easily miss out on the bigger releases in the process. I am only now discovering Professor Shyguy, and I'm glad I did.

That Chip-pop style I enjoy so much from the likes of The Grammar Club and Shael Riley is alive and well in Professor Shyguy's latest. Then the cameos by the incredible musicians Amanda Lepre, and Duane and Brando on their respective tracks make great contrasts of musical styles that I don't hear often enough in VGM.

Check out the latest, and, as far as I know, greatest, from Professor Shyguy, Rated Heart on bandcamp for $10 download.

The Adventures of Duane and Brando - Mega Man 2 music video

My grand buddy Legendary Wizard of the Legendary Hip Hop blog has made me aware of the always impressive VG Rock/Rap hybrid group The Adventures of Duane and Brando (who are also our band of the month for February) having released an awesome new video for a remake of their song MEGA MAN 2. Be sure to check out the video below, then hit them up on their myspace for some kudos on the epic production!

The Plasmas - Noentiendo album release

Looks like The Plasmas, a new VGM project out of Chile, has released a spectacularly metal album entitled Noentiendo. The album is 11 tracks and spans over 45 minutes, with covers from Kirby Superstar, Killer Instinct, Starfox, and even a rendition of Contra featuring Duane, of The Adventures of Duane and BrandO fame!

This album is well worth a listen, especially since it is a free download. So you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain! so head over to The Plasma's myspace page and download the album right away!

The Adventures of Duane and BrandO - EP of Doom album release

I have been hassling Duane and Brando to release something ever since I heard them. Well they have finally gave in to the demands of me and I'm sure many others by taking their tracks and releasing the EP of Doom. 6 Tracks of amazing rapping from the perspectives of the main characters of games like Castlevania, Bomberman, and The Legend of Zelda. Beyond the 6 tracks the album also includes a Wallpaper, The Duane and BrandO cartoon, and some more extras for the price of $5.

Definitely worth supporting these fine folks who have been tearing up both the nerdcore and VG rock scenes. Head over to Duane and BrandO's myspace page to order the album!

5 Bands to Check Out This Week

I've decided to make a semi-regular article in where every couple weeks I'll give you a quick list of bands, artists or albums I have been listening to lately. It's pretty self explanatory. I list five bands, then I demand you check out those bands as well!

Thanks to Jephso, I have been listening to plenty of The Depreciation Guild lately. They have the brand new album In Her Gentle Jaws up for free download at inhergentlejaws.com

Shawn Phase AKA Temp Sound Solutions has released plenty of new songs on his myspace page. I am definitely in love with his cover of UN Squadron, especially that little "chat" in the middle of the song. Head over to his myspace to hear all the great new stuff he's been working on!

Elfonso has released a new album (as stated earlier). I'm still giving that plenty of my time. If you haven't downloaded their new album Tako Wa Chikyu O Suku, then you have to stop dawdling and get it!

I have recently ran across an amazing band on Myspace going by the moniker 8-bit Duane and The Amazing BrandO (or The Adventures of Duane and Brand0, they can't be confined to one name). Once you hear their two song Mega Man epic, you'll definitely be hooked.

Finally, I have been hooked on one new song recently posted on OCRemix entitled Last Night a DJ Kidnapped Mallow by Skrypnyk. The song is a cover of Mallow's Sad Song from Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. Anyone who knows me knows that I consider Super Mario RPG the greatest game EVER made. You can download this amazing song at this link.
