Merry Christmas! Listen to Metroid tribute 'Kraid, Rest Ye Merry Mother Brain' by Doctor Octoroc

The galaxy is at peace.

I don't know if Doctor Octoroc has any more copies of the album, all these years later, but I'm certainly glad I have my copy still.

Maybe I'll have done a video by the time this post goes up, because I'd definitely like to show off my copy, and talk a bit more about the album and other video game inspired holiday albums.

Hopefully you have time off, and hopefully you are enjoying it and bumping some VGM!

Listen to the Christmas inspired Ninja Gaiden tribute 'Ryu, the Red Nosed Ninja' by Doctor Octoroc

You'll never be a Ninja with a nose like that.

Throughout the month I'm going to be sharing tracks from my favorite video game inspired Christmas album, 8-Bit Jesus by Doctor Octoroc. Best Christmas VGM album ever! I'm going to bump this nonstop, 'It's A Wonderful Life' style!

And if you haven't, make sure to grab the free soundtrack as well!

Christmas Regifting: 8 Bit Jesus, An Overclocked Christmas, 8bits of Christmas and more.

So to put it bluntly, there is no new music here, hence the "regifting." Let us revel in the holiday spirit though, and call these albums something of a tradition. Also, if anyone is feeling in an especially gift giving mood...well you see that contact link over there.

We kick things off with one of my personal favorites from a good pal. Let us all get reacquainted with Doctor Octoroc and his album 8-Bit Jesus.

Doctor Octoroc - 8-Bit Jesus

Available through the album page on, 8 Bit Jesus is Doctor Octoroc's first foray into chiptunes, and the results are quite amazing. With over a dozen christmas inspired chiptunes. Personal favorites of mine are Have Yourself a Final Little Fantasy and Little Drummer Nemo, the latter of which you can get in the free nine song album sampler

Next up we can't forget the classic compilation from well known label 8bitpeoples.

The collection of 8 tracks which comprise The 8bits of Christmas include tracks from seminal artists like Nullsleep, Bitshifter, GOTO80, and several more. Well worth a download any time of the year in fact!

Finally we have a classic from the OverClocked Remix community.

Their tribute to the season is An OverClocked Christmas. This is ten tracks of ReMixed christmas tunes as only the OCR community can do it. Another great album worth checking out, and as with all OCR projects, completely free to download.

I would also like to point folks to the recently released 8 Bit Weapon/ComputeHer Christmas album It's a Chiptune Holiday. Or if you just want to relax with some great winter themed songs, head over to Slightly Dark's album list and scroll down to "S" to find all seven SlightlyDark Christmas Mix volumes, or check out the amazing Sea of Ice compilation released at the end of last winter on Pause.

Doctor Octoroc titles upcoming album - After These Messages

Good pal and unlicensed practitioner Doctor Octoroc has been hard at work on his latest album, and now comes to us with a title, as well as possible track listing! After These Messages is the long awaited chiptune follow up to last years 8 Bit Jesus (which would be a good album to fire up right about now). For the uninformed, Doctor Octoroc has taken the concept from 8 Bit Jesus, and decided to apply it to a more commercial affair. This time taking well known television show themes from the 80's and early 90's and giving them a lo-fi chiptune makeover.

As Doctor Octoroc puts it, imagine if classic sitcoms and television shows got game adaptions to the NES. Cheers would possibly be like Root Beer Tapper. Can you get the Fresh Prince from Philly to Bel Air over 6 levels? Can you collect all the evidence and convict the 8 bit criminal in Law & Order? These are the things you will be contemplating as you listen to the album.

Doctor Octoroc says that he shall be adding all the songs to an awesome flash player soon for you all to enjoy. so stay up to date over at for the latest!

Here Comes a New Challenger II Turbo wallpapers from Doctor Octoroc

Musician and artist Doctor Octoroc has been hard at work finalizing the art and design for our upcoming compilation Here Comes a New Challenger II Turbo, and as a teaser of what is to come he has made available a new wallpaper to help you folks get excited about the upcoming release! Check it out at this link! I know the album is a bit delayed but we should have it out soon!

I also just want to mention, check out Doctoroc's bad ass 3D bead arts for F-Zero and the Vic Viper from Gradius. Very impressive work from two of my favorite games!

Doctor Octoroc releases preview tracks of upcoming untitled album

So Doctor Octoroc has been hard at work on his follow up chiptune album to 8 Bit Jesus, and has recently announced that he has some tracks available to preview on his website. You can check out the songs through this link. The album is currently untitled, but will be a full album of TV show and cartoon themes done in an 8 Bit style with the idea being "what if these shows were adapted into NES games?"

Check out the tracks and see if you can place them to each TV show! I think I got only 2 out of 5. Beat that!

Also on a related note, two other awesome things about Doctor Octoroc, he has recently made a stand alone sit for his previous effort, 8 Bit Jesus. So check that out if you are currently in the dark about that album, as the site has previews of every track on the album.

The second thing is that Doctor Octoroc was featured on G4TV alongside Nerdcore Rising and Get Lofi. Check out the footage below!

Christmas comes again: Doctor Octoroc releases hard copies of 8-Bit Jesus

For the uninformed who may have missed it, the album is a collection of classic holiday songs made in the style of various NES games from Kid Icarus to Contra and back again. Of course if you never ordered a copy from the good doctor as every other person on earth seems to, head over to this link to place your order for one!

Doctor Octoroc - 8-Bit Jesus full album release

In time for the remainder of the holiday season Doctor Octoroc has released the full version of 8-Bit Jesus. You can visit to download the album in ZIP or my more beloved RAR file format. Or be full of class and donate 15 dollars for the physical copy with art by Jude Buffum (who also did the amazing We Are Error artwork for Year 200X)

Unlike many christmas songs these songs are very well done and I will probably be listening to them for a good time after the holidays are all over and done with. Definitely an amazing album that has been burning up the internet and for good reason!

So what are you waiting for? Go download/buy this album and get Little Drummer Boy in the style of Little Nemo and Silent Night in the style of Mega Man, along with 16 more songs!

Doctor Octoroc - 8-Bit Jesus Sampler release

In the mood for Christmas? What is that? NO!? Well then this album should get you in the mood. Doctor Octoroc has released his first foray into chiptunes with the festive holiday album 8-Bit Jesus. This is just a sampler though, which you can download at Doctor Octoroc's website. This teaser includes 9 chiptune covers of holiday classics, all of which done in the style of different NES games. The full album is looking to be released right around Christmas day, so keep an eye out for the full release! Until then rock these songs at your Christmas party or just in your car during holiday traffic.

LOSER: A Sega Genesis Tribute compilation release!

Hey, do you remember that compilation thing I started putting together a few months ago?

Well it is done! Head over to to download the 39 track compilation dedicated 100% to the Sega Genesis! You won't regret it, unlike actually owning a Genesis instead of a Super NES!

Also huge thanks to all the artists who contributed tracks to this endeavor! It is, of course, the musicians who make the album, and are so supportive of these compilations I think up. Also thanks to Doctor Octoroc who will eventually be making album art for this compilation to replace the lameness I slapped together to open this post with. Another huge thanks to Shawn Phase of Temp Sound Solutions for undertaking the thankless (except for these thanks here) and difficult task of mastering and leveling a ton of disparate tracks.

I am tough on the Genesis folks (have been since grade school) but this album seriously rules, and I sincerely hope everyone enjoys it!

Did that title catch your attention? Well it better have because that is Doctor Octoroc's very goal! Pixelgasm is a brand new forum dedicated to pixel and sprite art of all sorts, including cross-stitching, pixel painting, and bead sprites. It was recently launched by Doctor Octoroc, and is, as he puts it, a place for "all VG inspired art that uses pixels as the base."

So head over and join the newborn but quickly growing Pixelgasm at and check out some of the amazing work like the ones below, or even show off some work of your own!
