This is quite easy to do, now that the MAGFest crew has announced a few of the many bands that will be performing at the upcoming festival. Groups include newcomers The X Hunters, and personal favorites Bit Brigade. Not to mention the return of amazing bands Metroid Metal, Entertainment System, and Rare Candy. On top of that, there will even be DJs cutting things up VG style with DJ Cutman and DJ AWESOME so you can dance it off all night long.

Mega Ran's Forever Famicom on vinyl and DVD, with your help

That's right, Mega Ran and K-Murdock's collaboration album Forever Famicom is not just an album anymore, but a full fledged story thanks to Griff Morivan. You just witnessed part one up above you, and you can check out part two already as well!

Will there be more though? This is where you come in as a loyal Mega Ran fan. Looks like Random has started a kickstarter fundraiser to bring both the Forever Famicom movie to DVD, as well as the FF album to vinyl for all the record collectors amongst you. The clock is ticking though, as Ran has given us less than a month to raise the necessary 2,500 bucks to make this dream a reality. As with all Kickstarter drives though, there are plenty of amazing incentives for those with deep pockets. Starting from a simple $10 for the Forever Famicom album, and posters, all the way to the highest donation, which gives you the power to request Random and K-Murdock sample and flow over any game you choose! Portal? UN Squadron? Barbie's Horse Adventures? For the price of $250 any of it is possible.

Anamanaguchi release new singles + live in Los Angeles - August 25-26, 2010

It's summer, and you know what that means. Tours, and plenty of them! I am glad to say that the first group crashing through the west coast is New York chip rockers Anamanaguchi, with two stops in Los Angeles.

The first one kicks off at The Bandshell in Los Angeles (details through here on facebook) on August 25th. They'll be performing with Speculator and Cloud City Sound Symphony from 6-8. Oh yeah, and this is an absolutely free outdoor show as well. So no excuses!

If you sadly do have the misfortune of not catching them at The Bandshell. All is not lost, you can head down to Meltdown Comics and catch Anamanaguchi doing a set the night of August 26th at 8PM. This show is Ten bucks at the door, but still worth it for fans of the band who missed them the night before, or just demand to see them twice.

Finally, for those who do not reside in the Los Angeles region, you are not left out either, as Anamanaguchi have been hard at work this summer releasing a single every two weeks along with a B-Side track for free download on their website. As of this post they are up to six songs in total, along with three separate animated album covers by various artists as well (the latest of which is at the top of this post). There are likely more tracks and amazing artwork to come soon as well, so be sure to keep checking out their single release page for more.

IllGill and Nameless interview August 20th on KSPC Video Game Music Show

KSPC radio's Video Game Music Show, one of the few awesome places with a dedicated game music show here in Southern California, has recently sent word that their show will play host to not one, but two awesome guests this Friday in nerdcore artists IllGill and Nameless, both rappers from Los Angeles.

The show kicks off Friday (Aug 20th), from 4-6PM PST and will feature a couple great live songs from the in studio guests along with interviews and more! So remember to tune in to KSPC 88.7 if you are near Claremont, CA, or just head over to kspc.org and tune in to the live stream!

Shael Riley and the Double Ice Backfire need kickstart for new album Ultimate Songs From The Pit

As you should all know by now, I have been a huge fan of Shael Riley since quite some time ago. Well ever since then he has started an amazing band known as the Double Ice Backfire who released an impressive album of nerdery and musicianship last year to high praises (like mine). Well they are all set to unveil their first full length album, once again in reference to a certain fighting franchise, Ultimate Songs From The Pit and they need our help to get there.

Now you must be wondering how exactly you can help. Well looks like Shael Riley and band have created a Kickstarter page to help raise the funds to get the album professionally mastered, pressed, and more. As with all kickstarter programs, DIB is offering some amazing incentives for donations, including the power to commission them to cover any song of your choosing (If I had the money I would probably request the likes of Tom Waits, or La Roux at this moment, so if you have the cash, just a suggestion).

The group has already released some amazing covers thanks to this program, so be sure to check out their renditions of Radiohead's Creep, as well as The Wallflowers' One Headlight over at the newly revamped shaelriley.com.

West Coast Wigout 2 only 1 week away!

Flyer

Yup, one week away from a huge all star night of video game inspired music. So for those who are not up to speed or need some more info, or persuading to come on out, here is the rundown. June 15th at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA there is going to be an epic night of video game rock, jazz, hip hop, and chiptunes! We call it West Coast Wigout 2!

It's a full night dedicated to some of the best in video game inspired music!

Full info about the concert through here.

Who's playing? Check out this list!

A_Rival (San Francisco, CA) – rivalrivalrival.bandcamp.com

The Megas (Los Angeles, CA) – themegas.com

Random AKA Mega Ran W/ K-Murdock (Phoenix, AZ) – megaran.com

WizWars (Los Angeles, CA) – myspace.com/wizwars

EvilWezil (Los Angeles, CA) – myspace.com/evilwezil

Tanuki Suit Riot (Los Angeles, CA) – tanukisuitriot.com

Quarter Circle Jab (Fresno, CA) - myspace.com/qtrcirclejab

You might recognize A_Rival better as OCReMix artist AE who remixed the classic SF2 title music as Clamato Fever in SF2THDR. Well guess what, he raps about video games too, and you better believe his raps are as epic as his remixes!

If you read GM4A then you already know who The Megas and Random AKA Mega Ran are. If you don't know though, I think their names give enough of a hint at what they are all about. The Megas tell a tale of a man, a mega man, in rock n roll fashion. While Mega Ran on the other hand raps from multiple perspectives and about every gaming topic under the sun and then some!

EvilWezil and Wizwars are two amazing chiptune artists who perform not with a guitar, or vocals, but armed only with their respective Gameboys to rock things chiptune style.

Finally the last block of awesomeness is the amazing VG jazz group Tanuki Suit Riot who jams out to everything from Zelda, to Mega Man X, to F-Zero. Last but not least is Quarter Circle Jab, who have been around for years but are gaining much more notoriety thanks to their debut release kickbutt.exe (free download). Yup, that album includes some more great SF2 music, as well as other great games like Final Fantasy and Earthbound.

So this will definitely be some night to remember!

Once again more info through this link.

GM4A turns Four!

What with all the hustle (and/or bustle) going on in the last month I completely forgot that today is the 4th anniversary of this here site. I think that just about makes us officially internet old! I could list a ton of things the site has been able to accomplish over the years, but that's pretty bland, and to me isn't the main reason I work on this site.

The thing that keeps me working on this site, what keeps me interested in logging onto my computer every day and looking for new albums and news, is simply the amazing attitude and comradery of the video game inspired music community. From the most acclaimed musicians down to the fledgling nobodies, this community contains a passion and kindness that I can't believe can ever be surpassed. I've made lifetime friends that I have now known for years, and continue to meet new amazing and excited people all the time. It's just hard to believe it's been four years since I met some of you as a fan, and now as a writer.

Even that much, after four years of writing at least one post every week (sometimes less, but usually far more) I finally almost feel comfortable with calling myself a 'writer'. I feel like I have grown a lot along with this site in many ways, don't worry I won't get all sappy about that though.

Basically I'll keep this one brief. I would like to thank everyone who has continued to support this site since it's inception in such a myriad of ways. From merely chatting with me in message boards to actively redesigning this site into the awesomeness it is today. Thank you all very much. Your passion is highly contagious and helps me gladly write something new every day for this site, and without that support this website would have faded away long ago.

With that said, I would like to announce that this party will be going all month. We'll be having several guest bloggers posting this month with their memories of VGM as well as GM4A and I for one am definitely looking forward to it, and I hope you folks are too!

Feel free to wish the site and I a happy birthday this weekend at VGS or Nullsleep's LA show, or June 15th at West Coast Wigout 2! Also feel free to toss a few donations for server and travel fees over there on the right side bar if you are feeling especially generous.

Nerdapalooza announces bands, venue and date.

The summer season is almost upon us, and with that comes the convention season as well. In that vein Nerdapalooza has gotten their act together for 2010 and unleashed a bevy of information on the masses.

First up is the venue. Looks like things have moved to the more travel friendly Orlando Airport Marriot which is right near Orlando Airport of course, so tranportation is now a simple matter. So now that you know the venue, you probably want to reserve a room. Well then you should know that Nerdapalooza 2010 will take place the weekend of July 17-18. If you do plan on reserving a room, be sure to use Nerdapalooza code "fnefnea" (or this link) for the special NAP rates.

Now that you have a room and dates. Now you of course need tickets. Ticket prices remain unchanged from last year at $20 per day or $30 for the whole weekend. You can order your tickets right now through Brown Paper Tickets as well. Not bad for two days of gaming, once in a lifetime concerts, and generally hobnobbing with all those cool people in the nerdcore scene.

Oh wait, how can I forget that several bands have been announced! That is sort of the reason for Nerdapalooza after all. So far we have gotten announcements that the likes of Schaffer the Darklord (with burlesque show in tow), Emergency Pizza Party, and the eminent presider over all that is nerdcore, MC Frontalot are all announced to be part of the festivities this year.

Stay checked in with us here at GM4A or nerdapalooza.org for all the latest details on this epic festival of all that is nerd culture.

For those who don't know, ZeaLouS1 has been hidden away in his top secret underground bunker concocting a new scheme of epic proportions. Just this past week he unveiled his plan for the world, and the news is that he has leveled up from solo artist, to full band. Now including the likes of Mr. Wizard and Bishop pulling guitar and bass duty, as well as Juggernaut on drums. Their first performance was a bit impromptu but appropriately at a LAN center of course. DIZeLAN Frag Center to be exact. The show was of course epic, with BossFights debuting several new songs as well as recreated ZeaLous1 classics. You can find several videos from their first performance at their brand new youtube page. You can also watch the new rendition of the classic ZeaLouS1 track, Army of Nerdcore below!
