A loving tribute to Pokemon with 'PokéMemories Vol.02' by Pokérus

A loving tribute to Pokemon with 'PokéMemories Vol.02' by Pokérus

Another heartfelt tribute to the infectious and nostalgic themes of the Pokemon series. No one does tributes the best selling Nintendo RPG quite like Pokerus. Clearly, from the name, you can tell Pokerus' music is quite intertwined with Pokemon. As such the attention and style of this album is quite impressive, and a great listen for Pokemon fans of any generation.

An eclectic tribute to the music of Super Metroid, 'C A Z A D O R A' from the Pixel Quemado collective

An eclectic tribute to the music of Super Metroid, 'C A Z A D O R A' from the Pixel Quemado collective

Covering the music of the Metroid series is very hit or miss. Stray too far from the source material and it can be too different from the ambient sounds of planet Zebes, or SR388, etc. Play it too close to the source material and now it's too ambient and ominous to be true listening music. Well the Pixel Quemado crew has a handle on the fickle music of Metroid and so they have dropped over a dozen tracks in a variety of styles, and all dedicated to possibly the best damn game ever made.

Debut album of retrogame inspired metal 'Collateral Jammage' by The Tiberian Sons

I can't say enough how much I love the title of this debut album. Not only are there some great game covers, but also some classic Cheap Trick, and TV shows like Goosebumps and sports.

The year is 2030. War has desolated much of the Earth. From over the distant hills comes the deafening shriek of a thousand decibels of pure, face-melting, torso-destroying, jimmies-rustling metal. At the center of the sound are four sentinels of destruction, bathed in amber light and wielding instruments of sonic decimation: The Tiberian Sons.

c&sstockreports lays down thirty minutes of NAMCO remixes in tribute to Masaya Nakamura

t's a good thing I post about New Temp Sound Solutions / Shawn Phase once a month now, because that almost (but not quite) matches his musical output. I began temp sound solution Tuesdays in the apparently futile attempt to dig into the very, very extensive backlog of TSS albums I have never written about, or in some cases, even heard yet.

'SIN' a heavy metal tribute to the music of Final Fantasy X by Knight of the Round

Man do I wish I had a metal podcast, I'd ask Tim Lydon of Year 200X fame if I could use the VGMMegacast name, and do it up right. Until that day though, I'll just be writing down my thoughts about great new metal albums like Knight of the Round here.

Fight On! a heavy metal tribute to Killer Instinct from ThePlasmas

KILLER INSTINCT.

This game came with an arranged soundtrack album when it was released in the US. of course kids in the US had no idea what an 'arranged VGM album" was at the time. It was the games soundtrack, but not what you heard on the SNES, but highly produced and polished remakes.

ThePlasmas takes this well known soundtrack, and adds that signature layer of piledriving metal. The result is an intense battery of sounds that makes you want to punch, kick, laser eye, and turn into cheetah at anyone near you. I rocked out to most of the album before I even knew it. ThePlasmas has a great knack for keeping things moving, which is the perfect vibe for a night of epic fights to the death.

Celebrate 25 years of Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past with these epic remixes

It's been a quarter of a century since Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past was released in Japan on November 21st, 1991. To celebrate, I'll be sharing tons of content! Be sure to check out my album and remix reviews, articles (coming soon), and a very special SUBCON Podcast 45, all dedicated to the Super Nintendo classic, Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past.

mastersword

Tomorrow I drop another SUBCON Podcast. It's a podcast dedicated to the best hip hop and rap inspired by video games. Unfortunately, time and format constraints led to a few great tracks getting left out.

Just like my SUBCON Link to the Past special, each song listed here is a rearrangement from the classic Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past soundtrack composed by Koji Kondo. We've got a few more hip hop vibes. Monstrously metal covers by ThePlasmas and Pokerus, and a clasy orchestral medley from Shiyru.

These tracks were shared by the amazing artists and musicians from the Game Music 4 All facebook group. Be sure to head over and join our discussions about music, gaming, and more! Check out these artists, and share some of your favorite Legend of Zelda Link to the Past memories with me on Twitter @genoboost!

Darkman007's metal guitar tribute to classic games, 'Sounds from The Past'

Darkman007 covers classic NES, Genesis, and even a ZX Spectrum game in this hard hitting album. Ten tracks of classic game tunes including Battletoads, Vectorman, Dr. Mario and more. The full album can be downloaded for $8 on Darkman's Bandcamp page.

Youtube - www.youtube.com/watch?v=og3ZTAd7GsU

Start recording the album on January 18th 2016. This album means a lot to me, it’s like a starter for further creative development after almost 2 years of musical emptiness. Moreover, playing such tunes automatically increase their skills in the sense of a tool, in particular guitars, because all quite unconventional and ingeniously simple.

But unusually for the same progressive rock. For example, it should be noted reefs that turned the recording Dr. Mario or Mission Impossible. These tunes have given me a new sense of the guitar. It is excellent!

P.S.:

Include cover art and scetch!

Chiptune rock video game remixes by Zebes System in Music System 2

There is rock, there are strings, there is chiptunery. This album has everything. Allow Zebes System to install Music System 2 and hear sweeping arrangements of generations of video game music, including one of the best Moon Patrol covers I have ever rocked out to.

Almost 20 minutes of epic metal Mega Man music by ThePlasmas

Hard hitting guitar, driving double pedal drums, and everything else metal all in tribute to the very much made out of metal Blue Bomber. Take a moment out of your day to rock out to this epic medley of Mega Man themes.

Fall in love with the space metal EP Narrowband by Stemage

Start listening, never stop.

t's difficult to put into words what makes Stemage so special, especially to my ears. All I really know is that when I start listening to his arrangements, I don't stop.

Stemage lays down half an hour of his patented space rock anthems. There are no metroids in this galaxy, but Stemage still takes listeners on a journey through vast spaces and alien worlds.

Narrowband is a 30-minute instrumental, color-themed journey slathered in heavy, riffy, space rock.

NESMETAL releases ambitious chiptune metal album 'Dead Lights and Dark Towers'

t's been a long while since NESMETAL announced this album, but after a few delays, Dead Lights and Dark Towers is finally here. The chiptune, metal, symphonic, concept album consists of intense and complex chiptunes.

The album is available free from Pterodactyl Squad. If only I had a VG Metal, or a chiptune podcast, this album would get a full podcast dedicated to it. Expect a video review in the future though!

Dead Lights and Dark Towers is a concept album of sorts detailing my journey into brokenness. Fear and hopelessness. Doubt. Bitter vengeance and despair, and my discovery of just how deeply rooted into my being those things had become over more than a decade. However, it is also a testament to an unrelenting Love, that was (and is still), always patiently waiting. Always searching me out. Even through the depths of my own darkness, always loving me. We all carry some kind of brokenness inside, in some way or another... and Love is always calling out to us.
