”I’ve always loved Yuzo Koshiro’s work on the Streets of Rage series (as well as the games themselves) and thought it would be fun to make my own soundtrack for a scrolling beat ‘em up.

So 10 years after Franklyn journeyed to Hot Dog City, I decided to throw him and his two friends, Reddy and Eggret into a city-wide brawl in an effort to stop Mayor Helmen (who is really the diabolical Mustardo) from destroying their beloved city.”

Disc 2 coming soon...

NESMETAL releases ambitious chiptune metal album 'Dead Lights and Dark Towers'

t's been a long while since NESMETAL announced this album, but after a few delays, Dead Lights and Dark Towers is finally here. The chiptune, metal, symphonic, concept album consists of intense and complex chiptunes.

The album is available free from Pterodactyl Squad. If only I had a VG Metal, or a chiptune podcast, this album would get a full podcast dedicated to it. Expect a video review in the future though!

Dead Lights and Dark Towers is a concept album of sorts detailing my journey into brokenness. Fear and hopelessness. Doubt. Bitter vengeance and despair, and my discovery of just how deeply rooted into my being those things had become over more than a decade. However, it is also a testament to an unrelenting Love, that was (and is still), always patiently waiting. Always searching me out. Even through the depths of my own darkness, always loving me. We all carry some kind of brokenness inside, in some way or another... and Love is always calling out to us.

New music from upcoming album Dead Lights and Dark Towers

Unfortunately it appears that the upcoming NESMETAL album has been pushed back to a 2015 release date. Every cloud has a silver lining though, and this is some heavy metal type silver to be sure. NESMETAL has decided to release another new track to assuage the feelings of fans.

The original conception of Dead Lights and Dark Towers began nearly three years ago, which NESMETAL says is, "Definitely the longest it's taken for me to complete a project." Originally the working title for a series of poems, this endeavor has taken on a new form as a dark fantasy album that traverses moods of loss, death, and darkness, and becoming stronger through it. Each song is accompanied by the poems and writings that originally inspired the project. These writings, along with the forthcoming final artwork will also be compiled in a future special edition version of Dead Lights and Dark Towers sometime in 2015.

You can check out the lyrics inspired by "Let the Heart Awake" through the link button below.

EXCLUSIVE: Listen to NESMETAL's "Wrought WIth Fear," from upcoming chiptune album Dead Lights and Dark Towers

Game Music 4 All is proud to present exclusive track releases from upcoming VGM. If you would like to have a track from a future release featured, please contact us.

NESMETAL is hard at work on his latest album, Dead Lights and Dark Towers. As proof, I present an exclusive track from the album, "Wrought With Fear."

The full album is scheduled for release until Winter 2014, but the hype train for Dead Lights and Dark Towers starts right now.

Wrought With Fear is four minutes of blistering, dark metal. The debut track from NESMETAL's forthcoming album is an intense journey into a gauntlet of danger that makes Dracula's castle look like a daycare. Machine gun drum synths and ominous metal riffs conjure up the image of a final boss battle against some nightmarish beast. If this track is any indication, then the 13 track full length album should be a hard hitting musical experience.

New NESMETAL EP on Pterodactyl Squad

Pterodactyl Squad have just dropped a new 7-track EP from NESMETAL titled Enthralled.

"Enthralled is an EP of two halves; the first sees NESMETAL experiment with new musical elements and ideas over the triptych of Ut Filiolus Palma, Labyrinth and The Risk, while the second is comprised of four rarities from various compilations and projects. But the real genius here lies in the first three tracks, where the addition of vocals and live guitar has pushed the NESMETAL sound to even further extremes in the pursuit and exploration of 8-bit inspired metal."

  1. Ut Filiolus Palma
  2. Labyrinth
  3. The Risk
  4. Bleed Cowardice (Bonus Track)
  5. The Throes Of Wickedness (Bonus Track)
  6. Throughout The Endless Ages (Bonus Track)
  7. Wily Castle - Stage 2 (Mega Man 10 Cover) (Bonus Track)

2 new releases from Pterodactyl Squad

Following on from the massive success of Weezer - The 8-bit Album, Pterodactyl Squad have just made two new releases. The first is NESMETAL's latest work, Void:

The prolific NESMETAL returns with his 4th release on Pterodactyl Squad, this his most dark and brooding work to date - Void. Inspired by the release of the retro-styled Mega Man 9 one year ago, NESMETAL decided to go back to basics, using simpler textures and rhythms to take his sound in a new direction. But fear not, the heavy metal themes and complex song structures still remain, making this release another truly interesting and original chapter in the tale of NESMETAL.

Then next we have a compilation full of brand new and unreleased tracks from the artists on Pterodactyl Squad.

  1. Heroes In The Snow - arcadecoma.
  2. Random Encounter In The Cereal Aisle - Spheres of Chaos
  3. Love Prevails - NESMETAL
  4. Medical Advice - Multifaros
  5. Sound Team JDK Homage 01 - Lawrence Power
  6. Candy Poppy - L'homme Manete
  7. Range of Korgameth - Temp Sound Solutions
  8. JW86 takut Wewegombel - Je deviens dj en 3 jours
  9. Mr. Glass - Skip
  10. Sound Team JDK Homage 07 - Lawrence Power
  11. GAYLA - Spamtron
As usual, download them both for free, and look out for a brand new fake soundtrack to come soon from Lawrence Power.

STFUAJPGM, a new chiptune podcast

Fans of video game music, art and culture should check out a sweet little podcast called STFUAJPGM. This fairly new project describes itself as "a miniature micro-music mixtape magazine", with each episode featuring video game style music, videos and other art focused on a particular theme.

There are currently three episodes available for download and so far the show has featured contributions from Animal Style, alex mauer, Shnabubula, NESMETAL and Lawrence Power. The show is always on the lookout for contributions of any form too, so get in touch if you're interested.

New NESMETAL track in recognition of Mega Man 9

NESMETAL has just uploaded a brand new track called Emotional Blackout to his MySpace page:

In recognition of Mega Man 9's release today I decided to upload one of the songs from the new album I'm working on (to be released sometime after the new year).

Mega Man's return to his 8-bit roots inspired the stripped down style change, if you're wondering why it's a little different from previous material. His games are one of the main reasons why I live 8 Bit music as much as I do.

So come check out the new track! It's all you'll be hearing of the album until it's release in '09!

Hope you're all well, and playing MEGA MAN 9!!!!

-Johnathan

The above-mentioned album is set to be released on Pterodactyl Squad sometime next year, but before that you can look forward to another full length from NESMETAL, entitled Luminous, which is scheduled for release on Pterodactyl Squad rather soon.

*I still can't get over that Mega Man 9 artwork btw

World's first podcast recorded on a Talkboy?

We just released episode 43 of the Gamewave Podcast, and we tried something a little different this time - we recorded it using a Talkboy; I'm pretty sure that's the first time it's ever been done before.

The audio quality isn't actually that bad, but don't worry, we didn't record the music using the Talkboy - that would have been silly! And we did play some rad music this week: Je deviens dj en 3 jours, temp sound solutions, alex mauer, Pixelh8, Spheres of Chaos, Spamtron, NESMETAL, Starship Amazing, Dudymas, Skip and Virt. There's also a return of the 'Website of the Week' feature! Don't miss this show!

New NESMETAL release on Pterodactyl Squad

Hot Dog City OST by NESMETAL

www.ptesquad.com/more/pte009.html

Hot Dog City is another in-progress game from Ray Fix and Johnathan Godbolt which unfortunately met with the same fate as Zombie Birthday Cake. However, the soundtrack written by NESMETAL was too good to remain unheard, so here it is!

Featuring a hot dog as the main character, the game was to be a fun, old-school style sidescroller, and much musical inspiration was taken from Ristar, Popful Mail and especially Sonic the Hedgehog.

"The bass lines in the old Sonic soundtracks have always been my favorite thing to listen to while playing. So I wanted to find a way to recreate that in my own way... a soundtrack that has the bass as one of the 'lead characters'" says NESMETAL.

Light and happy at times, then a little ridiculous and cartoony at others, Hot Dog City OST is definitely something different from the musical mind of NESMETAL.

ANAMANAGUCHI, NESMETAL, YEAR 200X, EGM COVERS VGM

Chiptune group Anamanaguchi have announced that their newest EP, Helix Nebula will be coming out this August care of 8bitpeoples. The EP will span seven tracks and clock in at approximately 20 minutes.
NESMETAL have released a new song. Track 12 - “Star Stealing Girl” (from Chrono Cross) is the song. Head on over and have a listen.
Sadly, Year 200X has had their myspace page erased for absolutely no reason (sort of rings a bell over here at GM4A). Well head on over to their new page and add them if you haven’t they have a bit of catching up to do. As incentive they have posted a new demo of Metal Gear that they are currently working on.
Electronic Gaming Monthly have covered several VGM bands in their August issue, which should be hitting news racks soon. In the article EGM covers six bands, Totally Radd!!, The Protomen, Final Fantasy, 14 Year Old Girls, Futuristic Sex Robotz, and Cinemechanica. Thanks to the internet, you can also check out the article on EGM’s official site egm.1up.com.
