Check out this artwork of Kumatora from Mother 3 by Kevin Fagaragan

She may not appear as refined as Zelda, or as majestic as Rosalina, but Kumatora is a Nintendo princess too dammit. I would certainly enjoy seeing Kumatora have to hang around Daisy and Peach for a day.

One thing I love about the simple sprites of the Mother series is the wide variety of interpretations people take when creating fan art of the games. Kevin Fagaragan combines the games art style with some dark bravado to get this trigger happy Kumatora.

Listen to Pokey Means Business! from the Earthbound OST

Sometimes you just want to listen to some of the incredible music from the SNES cult classic Earthbound. One day, when Nintendo is really in the red, and only one thing can save them from complete bankruptcy, they will translate Mother 3 for the US.

Listen to Towns I (Hello World) from Cory Johnson's Earthbound tribute album

The world could be falling apart around you, but you just don't care. That's how it feels in this heroic track from Cory Johnson's Earthbound tribute album. This song creates a much needed break in the grim opening of this album, but you can read the review for more about that.

Listen to International Dub Ambassadors live performance of Donkey Kong Country's Main Theme

One of my favorite groups, the International Dub Ambassadors, are so for the reason of this very song. An incredible live rendition of the memorable and beloved music of the original Donkey Kong Country. Nothing quite had the impact of the very first DKC game.

Once Cranky gets it with the bomb barrel, my whole childhood changed.

Listen to the Earthbound cover Sailing to Scaraba WIP by jonwd7

I just can't say no to any Sailing to Scaraba remix I find, even this mysterious, unembeddable WIP version of the theme from over a year ago by the mysterious jonwd7. I couldn't find out much with a quick google search of this one alias, which has music both on Soundcloud and Youtube.

So just bask in the mysteriousness of this short rendition of my personal favorite son from the entire Mother series.

Check out the Street Fighter inspired art Chun Li. by Endling

Chun Li.   by    Endling

This artwork was popular enough on Seven Out of Ten a few months ago to end up featured in a Weekly Recap, but Endling's art is definitely worth it's own individual post.

Take a look at this beautiful drawing of the strongest woman in the world, Chun Li from Street Fighter II and 3, and IV.

Check out this amazing Advance Wars artwork by artist Joe Sparrow

It's not often I run across some unbelievable fan art for the niche handheld series Advance Wars. Today is unlike those many other days though, as I have recently come across the online portfolio of one Joe Sparrow, and besides the cool name that would fit right into an Advance Wars title, Joe has also created some fantastic artwork of CO Lash of the Black Hole Army.

You can grab the very first Advance Wars on the Virtual Console for Wii U right now by the way!

Listen to a heavy metal remix of Kirby's Avalanche by Megalixir

Have my dreams become reality? It's about damn time I hear a remix from quite possibly the most underrated game, series, puzzler, and many other things, Kirby's Avalanche (AKA Puyo Puyo)!

I've been a hardcore Puyo fan ever since the reskinned Kirby's Avalanche debuted on the SNES nearly 20 years ago, and I am very glad to hear one of the many wonderful themes get the loving and epic remix it deserves. Thanks to Megalixir for making a VGM dream come true. I plan to have a complete review on the full Megalixir album soon, so stay tuned, or bookmark the Megalixir tag, or something!

The GM4A Weekly VGM Recap for December 29, 2014 - January 4, 2015

It's a new year, and that means more new music, and more new video games. Only one game can rip me from my months long Smash Bros binge, and that is the re-release of Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire on the Wii U. Catching Pokemon via fast paced pinball action is a very specific and intense type of fun for me. Unfortunately, rumble is not enabled in this Virtual Console title, such a shame. Athough, the use of save states guarantees me a never ending game of pinball, no matter how terrible I am at judging angles and trajectory.

Dark Pit by Zyuz

My favorite theme, and stage from the phenomenal, and when all is said and done, my favorite 3DS game ever, Kid Icarus Uprising!

I remember playing this game, and, as with any Sakurai developed game, loving the music. I looked up who did the music and, well, everyone did. This all star cast of musicians including some of my all time favorites such as Yasunori Mitsuda and Motoi Sakuraba. Everything about this game is great.

Listen to Temp Sound Solutions' mega man 2 woodman (feat. mr. pacman)

This song by Temp Sound Solutions is several of my favorite things. My favorite woodman cover, my favorite TSS song from my favorite TSS album, and the most in your face hard rocking Mega Man anthem I've yet to hear.

I've had a hankering for NBA Jam as I always do during the best moments of NBA season, and NBA Christmas is one of them. As always, OverClocked ReMix delivers with an absolutely on fire remix from OCReMix's big three, ktriton, Mustin, and Steve Lella (all of which also appeared on the absolutely stunning Bound Together album).

I plan to play this song in lieu of watching commercials during most of the NBA games today. OCR needs to get this track in the hands of some arena DJs, They already play Super Mario and Sonic noises in a couple stadiums, this tune should be jamming in arenas during every time out.

Get pumped!

(Also someone mash this up with the Space Jam theme please.)

Listen to this hard rock cover of the music from Tetris by Nerd Army

Considering back when I started digging through VGM remixes and covers over ten years ago, it seemed like every other remix I heard was of Tetris, and usually in the style of techno. That said, it's probably been years since I mentioned Tetris on this blog, but this heavy hitting cover by Nerd Army is more than enough to wash away all those terrible Tetris techno memories.

Listen to this metal rendition of Stage 1 from the original Castlevania by Ultimate D-pad

I can't pass up any metal cover of the original Castlevania music (nor any other type of cover to be honest). I believe the original Castlevania to have some of the strongest overall music of any game in the NES era. Comparable only to the best of the best soundtracks of the time.

Ultimate D-Pad gives the opening theme a go in this epic cover, which is also free to download, so you can headbang any time anywhere, even during a cursed, horrible night.

Listen to OCReMix 'La Samba de Agua' from the Super Mario Bros. 3 video game by Mustin

Back when I first heard of OverClocked Remix, I decided to grab every Mario song I could and slap them on a CD. Evidently it was early enough in OCR's history that the entire selection of Mario songs wasn't more than 80 minutes of music. Within that collection of songs was Mustin's phenomenal live arrangement of the oft overlooked world map music from World 3: Ocean Side.

To this day, this track remains one of my favorite Mustin arrangements, and OCReMix releases.

I also love that I don't have to state the name of the song, because the song does so itself!

Listen to classic Year 200X metal Legend of Zelda medley "Zelda II (Title - Battle - Fairy - Palace)"

Digging through some classic tunes lately, and can not pass up the chance to spread the gospel of my personal favorite Year 200X track.

Little did I know that the prolific Year 200X would go dormant in the studio for some time. As the final track on the album, this soundscape traversing medley did a lot to have Year 200X go out with a bang, echoing through the years until the eventual release (which was earlier this year!) of their sophomore album.
