The anime inspired bonus cut from 2012 hip hop space opera Diaries of a Space Cadet by An Hobbes. I'm a big fan of Trigun, and this track inspired by it.
Intense, warp speed level chiptune jam, Gears in Motion courtesy of Doctor Robotic and the folks of I Thought You Were A Marxist Records. From the Retrograde: New Adventures in Chiptune compilation
This album has grown on me like a kudzu vine over time. The laid back drums and synths on this track and many others on culelu's debut album are the current soundtrack to my summer. Not nearly as good as central air conditioning, but still very cool.
It's been a quarter of a century since Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past was released in Japan on November 21st, 1991. To celebrate, I'll be sharing tons of content! Be sure to check out my album and remix reviews, articles (coming soon), and a very special SUBCON Podcast 45, all dedicated to the Super Nintendo classic, Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past.
Tomorrow I drop another SUBCON Podcast. It's a podcast dedicated to the best hip hop and rap inspired by video games. Unfortunately, time and format constraints led to a few great tracks getting left out.
Just like my SUBCON Link to the Past special, each song listed here is a rearrangement from the classic Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past soundtrack composed by Koji Kondo. We've got a few more hip hop vibes. Monstrously metal covers by ThePlasmas and Pokerus, and a clasy orchestral medley from Shiyru.
These tracks were shared by the amazing artists and musicians from the Game Music 4 All facebook group. Be sure to head over and join our discussions about music, gaming, and more! Check out these artists, and share some of your favorite Legend of Zelda Link to the Past memories with me on Twitter @genoboost!
Chilled out beats from the depths of synthesized space. Classic track from before this blog even existed! All the way back to 2000 with these crazy and innovative sounds.
A very fantastic, and classic track. It's been a favorite of mine from YHA's sophomore album. I'm very glad I had the chance to hear this group, and very sad for their demise. Relive their glory with the aadventurous sounds of Hyper Fun Zone from Yakuza Heart Attack II.
This blog is incapable of existing without some Temp Sound Solutions as the fuel that gives me the energy to keep writing about VGM. Vibe on this classic track between Temp Sound Solution and chiptune maestro alex mauer on 'tony danza' from Blast Portable.
This awesome OverClocked ReMix dropped right after I finished editing my upcoming Advance Wars video retrospective, which I am still lamenting. This is one dope track though, and a great reason to tell you to go back and read my Advance Wars 15th Anniversary Retrospective article.
A while back, the VGM duo Frog & Cid were kind enough to share this track from their debut album of VGM rearrangements, Boss Chamber Music. The Frog & Cid arrangement starts off appropriately slow, letting each note rise and fall up until the Skull Kid's sudden appearance. The mood shifts quickly into the upbeat sounds of Lost Woods, and seems to careen out of control up until the end. Be sure to grab this track an the full Boss Chamber Music album for approximately $10 from Loudr, iTunes, Spotify, and/or Google Play.
New music by Emrls, this time it's a remix of classic music from the oft talked about game Final Fantasy VII. The track is Jamming Rockets, and is a remix of the Rest Theme from the FFVII soundtrack. Still looking forward to that next EmrlsCommunity album as well.
Chrono Trigger was Yasunori Mitsuda's very first OST and he created a wall to wall classic right out of the gate. The Mad Gear pay tribute to 20 years of the classic game, and phenomenal soundtrack with a music video for the epic battle theme Black Omen.
Can't get enough of these glitched out hip hop remixes by James Wong. This man can glitch hop anything. Ever since I heard his remix of music from Sonic the Hedgehog, I can;t get enough of Wong's style.
RIP TKRMX, Been a fan of his stuff since long after he quit, and all that is left is a trail of abandoned social media accounts like walking through some sort of mashup ghost town. This is a personal favorite, mashing up J. Cole with the music and sounds of anime classic Dragon Ball Z.
This is also technically a remix of Super Mario RPG music so UGH HELL YEAH. No matter what the source material though, this song is great, and TWIS kill it with the low key jazz stylings of this arrangement. I do not and can't possibly give The World is Square enough props for reminding me why I was a Square fanboy throughout my teenage years.
I love this EP, and the title track in particular. That grainy fuzz at the edge of these tracks creates the perfect soothing sounds to ensnare me in this wonderful song.
Short but haunting hip hop remix of the melancholy music of Lavender Town from the original Pokemon games for the Nintendo Game Boy. Voodoo Lion lays it down ice cold in the most disturbing way possible.
The wonderful opening track to the ncredible 2012 album Eternal Champ by Sweet Valley. This is the album that got me on board with this wonderful and eclectic music.
